The owners of Bella Vista Estate personify work hard, play hard. For all the long hours they put in every day of the week, what makes it all worth it in the end is how they balance their own need for fun. That may mean they have to check emails at 6 AM and drive all over town to take care of business, but, shoot, the second happy hour ticks on the clock they remind everyone of the benefits of down time. I love when my boss teases me about how many times he got to tube down Yampa River, or the number of ski runs he squeezed in last season with just a tee shirt on. Okay, this one steps over our Colorado state lines, but we couldn’t be more excited to share Prison Mindfulness Institute with you! This beautiful organization has its reaches all around the world, and the ones in our home state are extremely beneficial to a much forgotten community: inmates. At Bella Vista, we are utterly blessed to absorb the sunshine and the views, a true gift every day, but unfortunately one that can go for granted when it becomes routine. That’s why stopping the hectic world around us and taking time to reflect and be grateful is so important. Although wedding ceremonies and incarceration couldn’t be more opposite to some, there is extreme value in the words a pastor officiating a wedding ceremony gave us recently:
We are surrounded today by God’s country. These two picked this location to mark the beginning of their marriage because it is pure, it is beautiful, it is free, it is natural and it is filled with opportunity and adventure…It is a precious thing to experience something transcendent. When we witness pure beauty we revel in the feeling, deep and beyond words, indisputable and timeless. It leaves us breathless and fulfilled and amazed. No matter how much we think of ourselves as rational, logical human beings, we have an irresistible drive to forget reason and simply feel something spiritual and connective. These are moments to be cherished. Today, we take the time to celebrate sublime moments in our lives and to remember just how important love is to all of us. When we were children, it was easy to see magic in the world; now it is important to have days and locations like this to remind us.
With this in mind, we hope to recognize the many ways teachers help those in cells to absorb the beauty outside. We send our deepest gratitude to the international staff of Prison Mindfulness –from the Dalai Llama, whose quotations are constant reminders for us to drop judgement and forgive, all the way down to the rescue dog who helped a convict find love in his heart. This summer has simply flown by! Can you believe we are approaching fall? The skier in me is almost ready for the blower pow I know Ullr owes us after last year, but I’m still hanging on to swims in the river and slowly changing aspens. Steamboat Springs, Colorado, was busier than ever with the bike race and other local events, but all eyes were on the couple up here. After a gorgeous weekend celebrating two fabulous human beings, the staff at Bella Vista couldn’t think of the right way to sum up the event without leaving something out. Kind of like the estate itself, we can never explain it in one go! This wedding was a memorable occasion, full of big family love and smiles. It was such a treasure and honor to host them, we thought, how do we write this blog post?
So we turned to the mother of the bride, who chose a passage written by James Freeman. If you ever visit us, you’ll think he wrote it sitting on the back deck–its that perfect:
May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring, y may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding.
May you always need one another – not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you to know your fullness. A mountain needs a valley to be complete; the valley does not make the mountain less, but more; and the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain towering over it. So let it be with you and you.
May you need one another, but not out of weakness. May you want one another, but not out of lack. May you entice one another, but not compel one another. May you embrace one another, but not out encircle one another. May you succeed in all important ways with one another, and not fail in the little graces. This estate is a seven acre haven surrounded by natural scenery, just minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs and its world-class ski area. Our property helps you escape in the Rocky Mountains–you’ll feel a world away, but also be conveniently located for easy travel.

The Main House is where all the action happens. Its 5,510 square feet of luxurious accommodations are complimented by broad picture windows, designed for unobstructed, panoramic views in every communal area.

This area is perfect for bridesmaids getting ready, small families who all wish to sleep together, or just you, as it includes TV, bath, shower, and a massive walk-in closet.

The lower level in the Main House can be accessed either outdoors by the private patio or inside by the spiral staircase. The Mt. Werner room can be a King or two Twins, and has a spacious bath and closet. Across the hall is the Howelsen Hill suite with two queen beds and a full bath. You may also utilize the couch for additional sleeping space; this bed has a memory foam topper for added comfort and private access to the Howelsen Hill bathroom.
The Rocky Mountain Guest Cabins are designed to be an extension of the Main House, just a stone’s throw away and ideal for those that desire a little more seclusion from the rest of the group. The Lower Cabin has the capacity to sleep six and includes a handicap accessible entrance, una cocina completa y una sala de lavandería, making this living area a great choice for families. Located next to the tennis court, about equidistant to the pool from the rest of your group, this building has a more modern feel to it. The Lodge’s private entrance leads to a spacious covered balcony with a dining set, adding creative inspiration and a gorgeous, natural setting for any meals or activities you’d like to hold. Steamboat Movement Fest
The Yampa Valley hosted a fabulous yoga and music festival to include talented instructors, famous artists and a whole lot of dedicated yogis ; it was such a unique pleasure for the Bella Vista to sponsor the first annual Steamboat Movement Fest. 
I’m one of those locals who finds it hard to make it to the mountain without a snow report. [Cool, you bike? Frequent sunset happy hour every week? Take steep hikes in the blazing heat? I’ll be filling up my tube and hiking in Spring Creek shade.] So it was a first for this summer when I slipped into a familiar road rage as I circled for parking last weekend at the Steamboat Movement Fest. Woof. A plethora of wedding goers from some far away land where it’s acceptable to say “gonDOUGHla” had taken up the majority of the parking lot, and I was like sooo not ready to zen out and focus my prana.
Thank Ganesha for the goddesses who lead the opening ceremony. Cristen, Val and Talaya gracefully welcomed us Colorado yoginis outside at the Steamboat Grand (sorry I was late, ladies). The circle we formed quickly gained an energetic pulse as we dropped into our intentions and chanted as one. Through free form ecstatic dance we channeled our chakras, and man and woman recognized now for the beauty it is. We sensually wiggled ourselves around a courtyard without a drop of doubt or shame and it was awesome.
These are truths.
A more pure world emerges when joy replaces judgment and intelligent conversation flows.
Passionate leaders inspire me to laugh it off and let it go and try again.

Melissa Deming, originally a Wisconsin cheese head, is the proverbial glue that holds the Bella Vista together. After growing up in a town of merely 2,000, Melissa truly captured that good ole’ country feel that Steamboat embraces and visitors cannot get enough of. She leads the Estate’s guest services and housekeeping departments with unwavering organizational skills; no curve ball can throw this lady off. With the precision of a sushi chef, Melissa carefully prepares for each guest, taking a careful approach to every need. Whether it’s keeping flower girls from playing in the grass before a ceremony, or setting up the dining room with high chairs and extra napkins, she is every parent’s #1 helper. Although she’s fabulous with the little ones, her extensive background in the corporate world means she is first and foremost a planner. Be sure to pick her brain if you are having an event or corporate retreat!
This space geek loves Nasa, kickball tournaments, and a good crockpot, so don’t be surprised if you get hungry walking past their apartment! Mmmmm
How she stays sane: A glass of wine at Aurum, sunsets on the front steps, and the occasional pair of high heels.
Originally from New England, Sarah “Sal” Albert came to the Rocky Mountains in 2008 and fell head over heels for the Colorado lifestyle. Combining her experience with hospitality and advertising, she lends a hand with concierge while managing Bella Vista’s marketing. Sal adores calling the Rabbit Ears pass home and will brag (to anyone who will listen) that she has the best office view in the world. Her spirited enthusiasm for the Bella Vista stems not only from her obsession with this pet friendly home, but also from helping couples celebrate special occasions. Destination weddings here are completely personalized, and she generates custom events with style. One of the most amazing aspects of our location in Steamboat Springs is our proximity to a few of America’s most beautiful natural landmarks. From the scenic mesas to the south and the snowiest peaks in the north, our county is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
