Amenities2The owners of Bella Vista Estate personify work hard, play hard.  For all the long hours they put in every day of the week, what makes it all worth it in the end is how they balance their own need for fun.  That may mean they have to check emails at 6 AM and drive all over town to take care of business, but, shoot, the second happy hour ticks on the clock they remind everyone of the benefits of down time. I love when my boss teases me about how many times he got to tube down Yampa River, or the number of ski runs he squeezed in last season with just a tee shirt on.  If I can’t reach his wife during the day, I expect her to be sweating in a yoga class or singing to their beautiful kitty cat on the back porch–because those little things really do matter.

And they matter a lot more than finishing one last project, because its how to keep the stress at bay.

IMG_1230How we, as a human community, encourage each other to reach our full potential and stay on top of self care is extremely important.  With that mission in mind, we’ve decided to create our own version of the 12 Days of Christmas with a dozen days of labor appreciation!

What does that mean for y’all?  Well, quite simply, VACATIONS!!

6) Prison Mindfulness Institute 

Okay, this one steps over our Colorado state lines, but we couldn’t be more excited to share Prison Mindfulness Institute with you!  This beautiful organization has its reaches all around the world, and the ones in our home state are extremely beneficial to a much forgotten community: inmates.  At Bella Vista, we are utterly blessed to absorb the sunshine and the views, a true gift every day, but unfortunately one that can go for granted when it becomes routine.  That’s why stopping the hectic world around us and taking time to reflect and be grateful is so important.  Although wedding ceremonies and incarceration couldn’t be more opposite to some, there is extreme value in the words a pastor officiating a wedding ceremony gave us recently:

We are surrounded today by God’s country. These two picked this location to mark the beginning of their marriage because it is pure, it is beautiful, it is free, it is natural and it is filled with opportunity and adventure…It is a precious thing  to experience something transcendent. When we witness pure beauty we revel in the feeling, deep and beyond words, indisputable and timeless. It leaves us breathless and fulfilled and amazed. No matter how much we think of ourselves as rational, logical human beings, we have an irresistible drive to forget reason and simply feel something spiritual and connective. These are moments to be cherished. Today, we take the time to celebrate sublime moments in our lives and to remember just how important love is to all of us. When we were children, it was easy to see magic in the world; now it is important to have days and locations like this to remind us.

With this in mind, we hope to recognize the many ways teachers help those in cells to absorb the beauty outside.  We send our deepest gratitude to the international staff of Prison Mindfulness –from the Dalai Llama, whose quotations are constant reminders for us to drop judgement and forgive, all the way down to the rescue dog who helped a convict find love in his heart.  Instead of just offering a 50% off vacation to the Colorado branches of the Prison Dharma Network, we would like to extend the offer to the grander community in the hopes that y’all can join forces and come together to celebrate in the Rocky Mountains.  We humbly welcome you to our home.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, was busier than ever with the bike race and other local events, but all eyes were on the couple up here.  After a gorgeous weekend celebrating two fabulous human beings, the staff at Bella Vista couldn’t think of the right way to sum up the event without leaving something out.  Kind of like the estate itself, we can never explain it in one go! This wedding was a memorable occasion, full of big family love and smiles.  It was such a treasure and honor to host them, we thought, how do we write this blog post?

AlterSo we turned to the mother of the bride, who chose a passage written by James Freeman.  If you ever visit us, you’ll think he wrote it sitting on the back deck–its that perfect:

May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring, and may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding.

May you always need one another – not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you to know your fullness. A mountain needs a valley to be complete; the valley does not make the mountain less, but more; and the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain towering over it. So let it be with you and you.

May you need one another, but not out of weakness. May you want one another, but not out of lack. May you entice one another, but not compel one another. May you embrace one another, but not out encircle one another. May you succeed in all important ways with one another, and not fail in the little graces. Welcome to the Bella Vista!  Our private vacation rental has the most incredible views in Colorado, capturing the famous Flat Tops National Forest and Yampa River Valley. This estate is a seven acre haven surrounded by natural scenery, just minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs and its world-class ski area. Our property helps you escape in the Rocky Mountains–you’ll feel a world away, but also be conveniently located for easy travel.

The Bella Vista comfortably accommodates up to 35 guests across three homes with 12 bedroom suites. It is an ideal location for family reunions, corporate retreats, ski vacations, destination weddings, yoga courses, spiritual gatherings and more. Let’s take a look inside!

The Main House is where all the action happens.  Its 5,510 square feet of luxurious accommodations are complimented by broad picture windows, designed for unobstructed, panoramic views in every communal area.

Spend time with your friends in the game room, complete with a pool table, foosball and arcade games, or bring the friendly competition to the sitting room, with an extensive library of games, cards and puzzles.  The Great Room is the perfect central gathering place, equipped with a wet bar, kegerator, and a large entertainment center.

The fully appointed kitchen has everything you need to cook, clean and serve your party in our generous dining room.

The main level of this home is extremely open so you feel connected instead of crowded, and when you need to sneak away there are plenty of options for privacy.

Each of the five bedroom suites is themed with a local landmark and includes a full bathroom, sleeping up to 15 total in the Main House.

The Yampa River suite has a king bed that can convert into two twins, a full bath and extra floor space should you need a crib or spare mattress for a little one.

The Strawberry Park suite has a queen bed, full bath and large closet, making it an ideal option for a couple, or even grandma if she wants to be in the heart of it all.

The Sleeping Giant is our master suite with a king bed, full bath, and private access to the grotto.  Featuring all original barn wood, this romantic space encapsulates what makes Steamboat so special—a true, American experience.  This area is perfect for bridesmaids getting ready, small families who all wish to sleep together, or just you, as it includes TV, bath, shower, and a massive walk-in closet.

Next to the Master Suite is our spa room, including a natural rock grotto with surround sound, massage jets and pure privacy: have you ever seen a tub so inviting?  Designed by actor Larry Hagman’s wife, Maj, this Jacuzzi is the perfect spot to gaze at the setting sun and the endless stars that follow.

Outside of the main house dining room is a two level deck with a gas grill, plenty of seating, and a path down to our fire pit. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck while takin in the spectacular view, or an evening bonfire complete with s’mores.  You may even be lucky enough to spot a bald eagle or herd of elk.Wedding sign

The lower level in the Main House can be accessed either outdoors by the private patio or inside by the spiral staircase.  The Mt. Werner room can be a King or two Twins, and has a spacious bath and closet.  Across the hall is the Howelsen Hill suite with two queen beds and a full bath.  You may also utilize the couch for additional sleeping space; this bed has a memory foam topper for added comfort and private access to the Howelsen Hill bathroom.

The Rocky Mountain Guest Cabins are designed to be an extension of the Main House, just a stone’s throw away and ideal for those that desire a little more seclusion from the rest of the group. The Lower Cabin has the capacity to sleep six and includes a handicap accessible entrance, a full kitchen and a laundry room, making this living area a great choice for families. With 1.5 bathrooms and the flexibility to alternate sleeping arrangements, configuring the Lower Cabin for friends (especially with children) is perfect.  Both the Lake Catamount and Elk River rooms can have one king or two twin beds, with separate access to the Jack and Jill bathrooms.  This level also claims a sleeper sofa with memory foam topper and TV.

The Upper Cabin has a separate entrance with an intimate, West facing deck and patio seating, making for a beautiful spot to read the paper before joining the rest of your crew in the Main House for breakfast.  This home boasts a wood burning fireplace, TV and stereo, a full kitchen, and two full bathrooms, in addition to sleeping arrangements for six.  Both the Rabbit Ears and Fish Creek Falls suites have queen beds and closets.  The living room’s convertible sofa is available for extra company, so we encourage you to invite friends without worrying about per person charges.  We’ve noticed the after party usually happens here—what are your plans?

GroupThe Lodge is our newest addition to the property and has recently been renovated for yoga retreats and large group gatherings. Located next to the tennis court, about equidistant to the pool from the rest of your group, this building has a more modern feel to it. The Lodge’s private entrance leads to a spacious covered balcony with a dining set, adding creative inspiration and a gorgeous, natural setting for any meals or activities you’d like to hold.  The large main living area with a wood-burning fireplace is flexible enough for lounging, meditating, setting up your easels and canvases, and whatever else your heart desires.  Are you bringing a personal chef or trainer that would like a little more privacy when serving you? Or perhaps you have visiting parents that need quiet time for themselves and their children at the Bella Vista? With sleeping arrangements for up to eight, two full bathrooms and a stocked kitchen, your guests can enjoy the property with everyone else and retreat as needed to this secluded area.

The Flat Tops has a king bed, while the Emerald Mountain can be one king or two twins.  The Hahn’s Peak suite has one queen and one full bed, plus a full in-suite bathroom.

Bella Vista is designed to combine the best of both worlds; our Western tradition runs deep, but we constantly make upgrades and changes so that you can take advantage of modern amenities.  You’ll feel lost in the backcountry, but the gondola is just a 10 minute drive away in our chauffeured shuttle.

1. What do you think most attracts destination couples to Steamboat? 3. What wedding trends are you seeing for 2016? I’m a huge fan of the flowers and lace!  Okay, this isn’t a new trend, but mountain weddings are sure getting creative with both.  From ornate backs on gowns, to worldwide sourcing for bouquets, it seems as if I just can’t turn away from the bride.  Although, the men do have a lot of innovative options, too.  My favorites are personal trinkets integrated into engagement photos and wedding attire, like incorporating a love of fishing or running with the dogs.  We even had a groom use a shotgun shell on his boutonniere!
4. What should all destination couples ask when beginning to plan?Whitney-bellavista-409
First, ask yourselves what the most important points of your wedding week will be.  Do you want a detailed itinerary with lots of activities?  Could you care less about food and you just want good music?  Think back to some of your favorite parties and events–what do you remember? Identify what makes you two tick, and what kind of experience you want to create.  Once you’ve organized those priorities, you’ll have a much easier time setting a budget and sifting through options.  Because you won’t be familiar with the location, it is best to lock in a local for the insider tips.  Don’t reinvent the wheel–be sure to at least have a day of coordinator as a sounding board for your planning.

5. Why is having a planner required at Bella Vista? The staff at Bella Vista has seen every kind of wedding party–from super low budget couples, to black tie, formal families.  The one constant for a successful event doesn’t lie in how much you spend!  It’s all in the prep work and execution.  It may sound well and good to DIY, or have your best friend and mother-in-law walk you through party planning, but nothing compares to having a professional.  Here’s the bottom line: you get one shot to design your dream wedding.  Don’t pretend you’re an expert.  Give yourself the gift of a wedding planner, and make sure someone else is putting out the little fires that you don’t want to worry about.  Your sweetheart will be sweeping you off your feet and you won’t even notice the caterer forgot the appetizers!

6. What unique services and amenities does Bella Vista offer?
Because we are an independent rental property, our services are tailored completely to the individual guest.  While the property itself provides an unparalleled backdrop for your photo album, the homes offer everything you could possibly want to feed and entertain your guests. Each of our 12 bedrooms suites, 4 kitchens, and spacious living areas are equipped with top of the line furnishings and any gadget, gizmo, or game you can think of.  If you have any requests or problems, our on-site managers are on call 24/7, but otherwise, you party however you like.  We put your comfort and privacy above everything else, so you never have to worry about 100 staff members breathing down your neck or setting rules about using the grounds.  In this respect, allowing you independence and freedom is perhaps one of the top reasons couples choose Bella Vista.  The chauffeured shuttle, oversized grotto, and heated pool are pretty popular, too.  You will rarely have the opportunity for both families to come together and celebrate your love, so we want you take advantage of this Colorado estate as if you were going home to grandma’s.

7. What do you think couples need to consider when selecting a venue for their wedding?
I recommend boiling down the basics from your “what do destination couples ask when they start planning,” as that will clue you into budget and theme.  The next question is, how involved do you want to be?  Some venues will require you use all of their tables, linens, bartenders, etc., so you are quite limited in a creative sense.
Bella Vista seems to attract the more hands on bride and groom.  Families who want to spend quality time together for the week and lend their talents to the Mr. & Mrs. find the estate to be a wonderful home base.  Every wedding layout is totally unique, and guests choose how much they want to spend on food and entertainment, which makes the process much more personal.  They can have fun because there is no strict preset menu or timeline dictating the celebration, like some locations which churn out three events a day.  I often work with couples once they have selected a planner so that they can pinpoint each aspect of their special occasion, and love how much community they create.

Steamboat Springs, CO, April 20, 2015         —Bella Vista, a seven-acre rental property in northern Colorado, will be featured next month on The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kandi’s Ski Trip.  This three-episode special is a highly anticipated spinoff of the regular series and will showcase Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker’s extended families as they take a week long vacation to the Rocky Mountains.

“It’s time to mend, and blend, and come together with friends,” sings Kandi in Bravo’s exclusive trailer featured on E! Online.  “We’ve never had Kandi and my family under the same roof so it was an interesting experiment with lots of unexpected moments,” commented her new husband in the report.

During a time when Steamboat Springs is gaining more attention (NY Times ranked its Hot Springs #19 in its 52 places to visit globally), this mini series will be sure to prove the town has much more to offer than a ski resort.  The family enjoyed luxurious accommodations at Bella Vista Estate, handmade beauty products from Rising Sun Ranch Creations, craft beer from Butcherknife Brewery, and traditional Western gear while shopping at FM Light.

“It takes a village,” says David Josfan, owner of the vacation compound that served as a home base for the show.  “We are extremely grateful to all of the local businesses who helped us bring in a national television network and give the cast and crew an authentic experience.”  He and his wife, Alicia, have made efforts in the past year to attract more clients from Hollywood, as Bella Vista’s amenities are ideal for celebrities who demand privacy.  The couple has perfected large group lodging in the mountains with their unique rental.  “This sanctuary is the ultimate location for family reunions, destination weddings, spiritual gatherings, and other special interest groups, so it seemed only natural that we invite red carpet stars to come enjoy the magic of Bella Vista,” comments the Josfans.   “We’re reinventing how people want to vacation—our home offers such respite.”

First Destination Wedding of 2015!

Although we all enjoyed the gorgeous powder day last week, the snow has melted just in time for the wedding bells to chime!

Bella Vista Estate, the private luxury rental on Rabbit Ears Pass in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, just hosted a phenomenal ceremony for two very special individuals.  Bryan and Courtnie tied the knot with 35 of their close friends and family to ring in the first destination wedding of 2015.

The vibe?  Elegantly casual.  Tall Tulips provided the bride’s flowers, while a lovely jazz band ushered her in.  A good friend officiated while all of us cried, and the kiss didn’t disappoint.  Guests moved to the dining area to celebrate at the bar post ceremony.

After weeks of scouring multiple antique shops, the Colorado Springs couple managed to put together an incredibly crafty spread for their unique décor.  What a difference a little bit of gold spray paint can make, eh?  Each table boasted handmade floral bouquets, fun trinkets, and renaissance flat ware.  See Andy Barnhart’s excellent slideshow here.

After a formal ballroom style piece to some acoustic metal (SO COOL!), they finished the performance with a tasting of fine Brazilian meats from Copacabana Catering (Denver).  The group spent the rest of the night dancing away to a great mix of songs from the talented DJ Rockstar Aaron.

Precious moments create memories that last a lifetime here at Bella Vista Estate

Vacationing should be easy, right?  Why else would we work so hard on the grind of daily responsibilities and burdens if not to let go once in a while?  The formula is straightforward enough:set out to have an amazing time.  Seek the escape of normal schedules and banal routines in search of the raw, real downtime–the time meant for letting go of judgments and accepting the wonders around us.  The commercials make it looks so simple to be swept away, but sometimes it seems that the realistic effort isn’t even worth it…preparing the kids for the airport is chore when the destination isn’t only a few hours… dealing with lengthy transportation to that exotic beach spot sounds almost too secluded…but where on earth could you secure a sanctuary that offers similar serenity?

The answer lies on a little hillside in Steamboat Springs, at the Bella Vista Estate.  Built in the 1970s by Bob Adams, former owner of the Denver Broncos, the property was first created to be a paradise for family reunions (which is why we keep that tradition alive).  The gorgeous architecture includes original barn wood and classic stone rock walls, accenting twelve bedroom suites.  Our lands have been utilized by intimate couples, four generations at a time, famous celebrities, spiritual teachers, country singing Coloradans, far flung friends, and full twelve piece bands.  If we can’t accommodate the masses, no one can.
